Backing Off From This Blog

by Alan F. Zundel

Those few of you who have been following this blog know that I’ve been heading into some hard choices, feeling crunched for the time to do everything I’m trying to do. Today I decided writing reviews for this blog will be the sacrificial victim.

I started this blog both because I hoped it would build an audience for my future books and to keep me writing. Well, it kept me writing all right, only I’ve been writing for the blog instead of writing the books. That kind of defeats the purpose.

Still, I enjoy writing the reviews so didn’t want to give it up. But this morning I found Amazon had cancelled my associates’ affiliation, presumably because I wasn’t generating enough sales for them. (I say presumably because they didn’t give me the courtesy of an explanation. Boo Amazon!)

Without the hope of some ancillary income from the reviews, my motivation to keep doing them disappeared. I may continue to do one now and then, as I will keep watching movies and reading books, but we’ll see how it goes. Cutting back on my reviews means I will feel less pressure to keep feeding the blog and so I can slow down on my reading and movie watching as well.

So what’s next for me? I hope to keep working on one or both of the books I’ve started, a sequel to my recent memoir and a novel based on a screenplay I wrote last year. I will blog on my progress, or lack of it, from time to time, just in case anyone is still with me.

Other than that, I have been becoming more politically active again. I joined the Pacific Green Party here in Oregon and have been engaged in helping build the party. We will be doing a campaign for ranked choice voting in one of the counties next year, and I am starting up a think tank with a colleague. The think tank work will make use of my Ph.D. in political science, which has been gathering dust in the closet since I left academia over ten years ago.

I will keep writing one way or another and hope some of you will keep reading my stuff, whether it’s the books when they finally appear or articles on the think tank website. Or even something on this blog again.

Thanks for reading. Keep in touch.

All the best, AZ. I’ve enjoyed your stuff. I just read “A Tightly Raveled Mind” based upon your recommendation and quite enjoyed it. Write On! John
